Outdoor CCTV Camera Guide

Closed Circuit TV, or CCTV, cameras are video cameras that transmit video to specified set of monitors used for keeping tabs on a limited area. Outdoor CCTV is generally used to monitor parking lots, exterior of business and homes, or various perimeters. They are very easy to install and operate and are great watch that can watch and record any area that’s required.

The actual CCTV camera is typically mounted high above the action, looking down and across, while being attached to the side of a building. They generally swivel automatically, but can be manually operated. When selecting an outdoor surveillance camera, there are different considerations such as, what area is being viewed and what kind of detail is needed. Another thing to think about would determining if the camera’s needed day and night and/or will it be exposed to the elements.

One good feature about the CCTV camera is the video taken can be recorded for use when needed, or can be monitored directly by experienced personnel. The resolution of the outdoor camera should also be considered when deciding on the type of camera. You may want to see up close and personal video of something or someone, such as a license plate or face.

Depending on where you live, you will most likely have to protect your outdoor security camera from the elements. If you are purchasing a new outdoor camera, weather proofing is the way to go. If you’re placing an existing camera outside for use, you would set the camera up with a shelter to protect it from the elements.

Day/night outdoor CCTV cameras use a very sensitive imaging micro chip that permits good pictures in low light without using infrared technology. The difference is the amount of power used is greater for the infrared cameras. However, regardless of the options available, having your outdoors protected by a security camera can save sleepless nights a leave you with legitimate sense of protection.
